Call For Presenters for the 2012 Summer Literacy Institute: Rigorous Reading Instruction

 

In preparation for the 2012 Summer Literacy Institute: Rigorous Reading Instruction, the Department of Education and Early Development is recruiting presenters.  The Institutes’ targeted audience is preschool providers, elementary teachers, secondary teachers from all content areas, para-professionals, instructional aides, reading specialists and administrators from all districts in improvement.  Content presented at the Institute will be linked to the Alaska Literacy Blueprint: Birth to Graduation and follows the Blueprint in structure. Those interested in presenting at this institute may fill out the Request for Informal Proposal and submit it to: karen.melin@alaska.gov or elizabeth.davis@alaska.gov

Communicating Across Cultures with Father Oleksa

Communicating Across Cultures

May 21-23, 2012 with online follow up work

- BP Center, Anchorage.

Join the Rev. Dr. Michael Oleksa, a leader in the development of cross-cultural communication in Alaska and student of Native cultures for Communicating Across Cultures a three credit, 500-level multicultural education course this summer. This course meets Alaska Department of Education and Early Development requirements for teacher certification and re-certification. This course has been approved by the Anchorage School District.  Over a thousand Alaskan educators have participated in Father Oleksa’s ASDN classes over the last fifteen years.
The session begins with two-and-a-half days of instruction from Father Oleksa in Anchorage, and is completed online. The follow-up work must be completed online. A working email address and access to the Internet are required.Communicating Across Cultures participants will take a half-day, self-guided field trip to the Alaska Native Heritage Center as part of this class.  All other activities will take place at the BP Energy Center in Anchorage.
